Lecture Discussions and Takeaways!

One thing that was unique about this class, and quite different from other courses I've taken, was the emphasis on learning from guest speakers. Dr. Kim did not lecture directly, but facilitated lectures and discussion with a wide variety of engaging guest lecturers. Some lecturers were in residence at the UW, whereas some came to class from across the country!  As we listened to lecturers present on topics ranging from pidgins and creoles, to language policy and immigration, to language management and resilience, we were able to build up toolkits for talking about heritage language maintenance in a variety of contexts. The blog posts below are drawn from discussion responses I wrote following lectures, where I tried to identify some take-aways and build my understanding of the lecture's message and perspectives.
